OUR TEAM
Having experienced first-hand the enormity, chaos, and sheer destructive force of the 2003 Canberra Bushfires (amongst others), we believed there had to be more to bushfire survival and property protection than solely relying on fire service intervention to carry this heavy load.
The more we investigated the preparation and maintenance of the surrounding landscape, the siting, design and construction of our homes, the provision and accessibility of water supplies and most importantly, the planning for the eventuality of a bushfire, the more it made sense. We can’t always stop bushfires from happening. Still, we can choose how we prepare and respond, even well before it happens, through planning, design, and engineering.
While we had a deep understanding and extensive knowledge of fire operations and building fire safety, we were eager to understand our unique environment more fully, bushfire behaviour, and how these elements impact where and how we build and choose to live, and we undertook post-graduate studies in Bushfire Protection.
We are passionate about the principles and philosophy of bushfire protection (life, property, and environment) and are keen to share our understanding and knowledge and how it applies to your project.
Meet the team
Jeff is a dedicated Consulting Bushfire Practitioner with EMBER Bushfire Consulting. Since 1992, he has tirelessly worked in various fire services fields, from wildfire and structure firefighting to fire safety engineering, from risk analysis to planning and building approvals.Jeff’s passion for bushfire protection was ignited by profound personal and professional experiences during the Canberra Bushfire 2003. This event set him on a path of studying bushfires and seeking innovative ways to defend the community from this ever-present threat, going beyond the traditional fire suppression model.
In 2013, Jeff and two like-minded firefighters founded EMBER Bushfire Consulting to provide bushfire protection and planning services to builders, architects, town planners, and homeowners.

Rob has retired after 35 years of service in many different roles in professional Fire Services.
During this service period, Rob has experienced many out-of-control bushfires and intense short-fire runs into the residential areas and witnessed the destruction they cause.
With ten years of experience as a bushfire planning practitioner and over 175 jobs in the bushfire planning and design environment, Rob understands the increasing challenges for fire safety in bushfire-prone areas. The increased challenges of climate change, accelerating the frequency of bushfires and erratic weather behaviour, further enhance the need for bushfire safety regulations to protect life (human and animal) and property in the future. The protection of Australia’s unique environment is equally important.
Rob believes that the sensible application of the six bushfire protection measures found in PBP, with researched evidence from recent large and destructive bushfires and ongoing scientific research, will significantly assist the survival of life, property and the environment in the future.
